The Clefs

Treble Clef-- The treble clef is placed on a staff that has mostly notes higher than middle "C." Treble means high.

Bass Clef-- The bass clef is placed on a staff that has mostly notes lower than middle "C." Bass means low.

The Staff

The staff is made up of 5 lines and four spaces. Each line and space on the staff is assigned one of the 7 letters from the musical alphabet ( A B C D E F G ).

Bar Lines & Measures

Bar lines are the vertical lines that separate the staff into sections called measures. Each measure is assigned a number (counting in order from left to right) which makes it easier for us to find our place in music.
